Graphic description of number types

Real number set

The diagram is an example of the types of the real number lines in the real number system.

Note that the rational number system consists of all the numbers on the real number line.

In a graph of the real number line this would represent the x-axis.

  1.  Natural Numbers
  2.  Whole Numbers
  3.  Integers
  4.  Decimal Numbers
  5.  Rational Numbers
  6.  Irrational Numbers

Explanation:

  1. Natural_Numbers       a)  Counting numbers
  2.  Whole_Number          a)  Add a Zero to the left of the +1 of natural numbers.
  3. Integers                       a)  Add -1 to the left of the zero and continue left to as far as needed.
  4.  Decimal Numbers      a) Numbers that have a decimal point in them.                                                                                                                             b)  Numbers to the right of the decimal point are  less than one.
  5. Rational numbers       a) Numbers that can be expressed as a fraction
  6. Irrational numbers,     a)Numbers that can be not expressed as a fraction. and do not repeat to the right of the                                                          decimal  point.
